After Schnitzler La Ronde

Synopsis

La Ronde is a controversial play with provocative sexual themes, written by Arthur Schnitzler in 1897. It scrutinizes the sexual morality and class ideology of its time through successive encounters between pairs of characters. Casting characters at all levels of society, the play offers social commentary on how intercourse transcends class boundaries. Privately printed in 1900, it was not presented publicly until 1920, when it provoked strong reactions.

The action of the work is transferred from Austria in 1890 to Greece in 1985 and the characters as well as the stories are adapted to the Greek reality and the time. The Athens of the 80s becomes the ground for the La Ronde couples to meet, and with a nostalgia for the era but also a very romantic mood, humor and self-sarcasm, the merry-go-round unfolds in a different performance of this classic work.
