Synopsis
The play by 26-year-old and debutant John Osborne premiered worldwide on 8-5-1956 at the Royal Court Theater in London and was described as "the mine that blew up theatrical reality with its pieces falling back into a land that never again it would not be the same. "
The main cuts that Look Back in Anger introduced were that it transferred the theatrical action from the usual living rooms "to the kitchen", brought to the theatrical stage twenty protagonists in monumental roles and put the viewers in front of the problems of an entire post-war generation. after a world war had brought it to the point of social explosion.
He also recorded the depiction of the life of this generation with a direct, raw, but also tender, even unexpectedly poetic speech, putting on the table completely different topics, such as sex, class warfare, religion, politics, the press , the nostalgia for the lost English identity, and - all this - in a way unprecedented for its completely unpretentious simplicity, momentum, truth and authenticity.
With this work, Osborne influenced and paved the way for writers of the range of Harold Pinter, David Hare, Simon Stevens, Sheilagh Delaney, Arnold Whesker and many others.
